The Great Spirit Circle Trail is pleased to work with you to develop a quality, age appropriate, custom itinerary built around your curriculum needs, interests and budget which is both interactive and fun.  An authentic Aboriginal experience can be combined with a stop at Sudbury’s Science North to maximize the impact of your visit to our region.

Your journey begins as soon as you arrive to the heart of Manitoulin Island and the First Nation community of M ’Chigeeng. Your first stop is at the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, a state-of the-art heritage museum reflecting the philosophy of the Anishnaabe way of life; having no ending and no beginning and everything being interconnected. Be greeted at the eastern doorway by a depiction of the spirit “Shaman Family”. Meet your GSCT Tour Leader and become familiarized with your group’s itinerary as well as any visitor information including photography restrictions, etc.. The tour begins with a viewing of the healing lodge followed by an introduction to the museum. Students are provided the opportunity to view displayed artworks and film footage in the rotunda. Gift shop and washroom facilities available.

Following the tour of the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, students will commence the next portion of their group tour with a choice of one of the following options:

Student Package 1:

Ojibwe Traditional Crafting
Under the expert guidance of a skilled craftsperson, students create their very own small bead and leather craft item while learning about the history and symbolisms of these items. (Students receive a souvenir keepsake.)

Student Package 2:

Seven Grandfather Teachings Scavenger Hunt

Be escorted by your Interpretive Guide(s) and using the buddy system, students will learn about the Seven Grandfather Teachings as they are led on a fun filled activity. For each of the items discovered on the trail, students will learn the symbolisms of these items. All participants must be equipped with running shoes or hiking boots.

Note: In the event of inclement weather, Pak 1 will automatically be substituted. (Students receive a souvenir keepsake.) As this adventurous day draws to a close, we bid you a fond farewell as you continue your journey and we hope you’ve enjoyed your time with us as we say “Miigwetch” (thank you) for our time together to Experience the Past, Enjoy the Present!
